EBBE Name Change

March 13, 2009 · Leave a Comment

To those of you not in attendance at our March 12 weekly meeting, the subject of changing the name of our network group was discussed.  I think most people in attendance agreed that the name EBBE does not roll off your tongue that easy.

We would love feed back from each and every one of you. The group in general showed some interest but understandably there are some members that were opposed to it.

Here’s what we would like from you:

  1. Suggestion of a new name ( an quick example might be…… SBN  ” Small Business Network”) or
  2. Tell us you don’t want to change the name.

Tim made a very good suggestion on how the voting could work:

  • Members will get 1 point for each year they have been a member.   For example, Sydney would get 8 points for her vote and I would get 2 points.

Give it some thought and email me your ideas on the subject this week. I will forward the suggestions to Jim and he will list below on the blog.

Bill Gilligan

Below are the comments/feedback and name suggestions received so far…

Larry Krainson: Ok, guys it took me a good week to come up with something that I like. It just came to me while driving home (11½ hours after leaving this morning).

So here it is:   “Springfield Area Business Referrals” or SABR for short.

Logo: A sabre (sword) with a large referral slip stuck in the tip. With the word referral visible on it. Or maybe a businessman or person holding the SABR with the referral slip on the tip.

Imagine being at a chamber or other event in a group of people:
Bill, are you going to the SABR meeting tomorrow morning?   You reply, I am definitely going.   The guy beesides you pipes in “what is saber”.   You go on to explain about the Springfield Area Business Referrals being a group of small business owners concentrating on small business in the area and generating new business thru referrals for them. Etc, etc.

A catchy name, easy to remember, hand out a SABR business card with the info, it flows off the tongue and is MUCH easier to remember. Plus the logo emphasizes the name making it even more memorable. And easy to discuss and understand in a group.

Wayne Ramsey: What about Western Ma Business Referral (WMBR or MBR for MA Business Referral)?  As for the voting I think that is fair for the members who have been there since the start of the group.

Dick Forrest: I do not want the name of EBBE to be changed. We use the name in so many different places that I don’t think it’s necessary to change. There is recognition to the name, more than you think. There would also be an expense associated with the name change. In my view, an unnecessary one.

Sandy Saffer: I have been a member of EBBE for 6-7 years and do not desire to see a name change.
